And there are protected nature areas in the nature park. In the nature reservation Hrubovodské Sutě grow a number of beeches, including Dentario enneaphylli-Fagetum, and detrital woods, among which are endangered species of wild plants and animals. The natural monument Kamenné Proudy, Stone Streams, in Domašov, Libavá and Domašov nad Bystřicí are fine examples of loess formations, stone “seas” and scree.
One factor which contributes to the personal charm of the Bystřice River valley are the high bridges and tunnels of the railway along the Olomouc – Krnov line, which wind high above the river so as not to spoil the natural beauty of the landscape.
However most hikers are drawn to the 4 km section between the railway stops Jívová – Hrubá Voda-Smilov. The river valley here will surprise you by its wildness. Rocky outbursts rise from wooded slopes and there are only narrow wooded paths along the roaring water.
The gateway to the nature park is the town of Velká Bystřice. Here one can visit a church with a Gothic chancel, which was rebuilt in Baroque style at the end of the 17th century. A favourite tourist attraction on the edge of this nature park is the pilgrimage site of Svatý Kopeček, with its Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Animals lovers flock there too, to the Olomouc Zoo. With good snow conditions, you can ski the 350 metre-long trails in the village Domašov nad Bystřicí.
Part of the nature park can be seen via an instructional nature trail (length 7.1 km, number of stations 9) starting at Svatý Kopeček u Olomouce (bus) and ending at Radíkov (bus), Svatý Kopeček (bus), Pohořany (bus) and Hrubá Voda (bus, train). Cycling paths go through the area of the nature park. The choice of circle is yours: Olomouc – Mariánské Údolí – Svatý Kopeček – Dolany – Olomouc (35 km), or Olomouc – Hrubá Voda – Jívová – Olomouc (50 km). For a more demanding trail, try Svatý Kopeček – Pohořany – Jedová – Jívová – Domašov n. Bystřicí – Hrubá Voda – Olomouc (55 km).
This project is co-financed by the European Union and the Olomouc region.
