National nature reserve Králický Sněžník

The most prominent feature of the Staré Město micro-region is Králický Sněžník (1424 metres in altitude) on whose peak once stood a viewing area. A statue of a baby elephant lords over the surrounding area gazing throughout the year at the views of the Hrubý Jeseník, Orlické hory, Krkonoše and the Polish Soví mountain ranges. Visitors should not pass up the view either. The national nature reserve Králický Sněžník is the starting point for the largest Moravian river the Morava and lies in the central and top parts of the mountain range of the same name taking up an area of 1695 ha. The peak Klepý looms up on the border with Poland and forms a significant European dividing point for water leading into three seas.

Stříbrnice (Staroměstsko a Hanušovicko)

The Stříbrnice – Návrší ski centre is situated not far from the village of Stříbrnice. The ski slopes are on the hillsides of the Kralický Sněžník mountain range. The firm Vleky Stříbrnice currently operates 4 lifts. The total length of the slopes is 1,400 m., with a total drop of 220 m. The local centre will please families with small children as well as experienced skiers and snowboarding enthusiasts. The additional services offered are on a good level; both accommodations and dining facilities can be found at the centre. The Alpine slogan “straight to home on skis” is valid here. Parking is free.

The remains of one of the largest Moravian castles are found in the forest above the valley of the Morava River not far from the town of Hanušovice. This gothic castle from the 14th century was apparently destroyed during the wars between George of Poděbrady with the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus. Tourists can view here the fortress architecture of the 14th and 15th centuries. The remains, untouched by reconstruction work, truly breath of romance.
